Greg Lauren's incredibly innovative closing show at LAFW 2021 showed us all how inspiring 'sustainable & ethically sourced fashion' can be.

Lauren first showcased his collection of functional couture, consisting of repurposed military fabrics, used bags & field clothing. Also shown were gorgeously artisanal designs, featuring patchwork created by 14 quilters from the rural Alabama community of Black artists from Gee's Bend, who trace their history (and craft) back to the enslaved people of Pettway Plantation. The Mosaic: "Gee’s Bend & the Greg Lauren collection" uses scraps of fabric from the designer’s archive as a way of acknowledging his brand’s signature sustainable “GL Scraps”. Greg Lauren humbly credits the artisans who came before him, including those in Gee’s Bend.

Lauren is a daring artist who explores “Identity, image development, aspiration, and the heroic figure,” he says. Lauren has worked with ‘Alteration for Colette’ in donating a percentage of every purchase to wounded soldiers, which financially covers some of their medical treatments.

Lauren's runway show began with choreographers who broke out into wildly hectic & unexpected contortions & 'break dancing'. The entire crowd was so shocked & bewitched by this event, that felt so delightfully different than the predictably 'normal runway show".
